Understanding Comics Reflection

This reading opened my eyes up to how I relate with comics and drawings. I agree that it is true to say that when you are viewing something like a comic, you tend to try to identify yourself with it and feel like you’re apart of the bigger picture.

I found it especially interesting when the author broke down the
image of a face until it was no longer a face at all, but merely a circle with two dots and a line. The audience was still able to make out the picture of a face however. I wasn’t able to see the rest of the circles with two dots as anything else other than faces; it’s crazy how our mind identify and associate images and pictures with what we’ve
previously seen before.

I also enjoyed the part where the author talked about how we view people when interacting with them, compared to how we think we look in our mind. You are never able to get a clear image of yourself when thinking about it, however when you’re looking at someone else, you can see every detail.

Writer's Toolbox Reflection

I found the Writer’s Toolbox reading very helpful. I’ve tried a few of the maps and writing that the reading talks about with this current project. I found throughout this project that the visual aspect of the mind maps helped me the most however.
They all let you get every idea you have down on paper, which is extremely helpful when my group was trying to decide on a innovative aspect to add to our chosen object.
I feel that the ideas from this reading will be helpful in many areas along the course of school and also in furthering my career.

IDEO Reflection

I felt that the documentary IDEO was basically saying that design is all about being free and letting your mind go with any idea that comes to life; no matter how small or silly the idea may be. It also showed how there isn’t a sense of superiority or hierarchy in a design work environment.
The people with the best ideas may or may not be those who have been there the longest or worked on the most projects, and the work environment of a design department understands and recognizes that.
The movie talked about how you aren’t required or expected to ask permission in design work environments to go with an idea because of the freedom throughout the work place.
If you never try, you’ll never know whether or not your idea would have been successful or not.

Objectified Reflection

I thought that the movie “Objectified” was really interesting because of how it showed the process of how things go from the drawing board to the actual store. Also because it showed how everything in our world has been touched and designed in some way or another. One object that they talked about in the movie was a toothpick. A toothpick is an object that I never really thought about being specifically designed for a certain purpose. I think their example of the toothpick really brought to life how design touches everything, even an object seems so insignificant. If design is important and can touch even something so small and overlooked as a toothpick, then it must be everything where else as well.

  1. Harmonious Hues:

Colors are less than 3 steps from each other on the color wheel. The colors together create a positive feeling for the viewer because of the similarities of the red and purple tones.

2. Soft Contrast / Weak Chroma:

Although the contrast and chroma in this picture are very weak or dull, it is still benefiting the picture in a positive way. The value of colors are all very similar with little high contrast areas.
